Predictions for the 2016 CMA Awards

CMA Awards 50

The 50th edition of the CMA Awards will hit the air tomorrow night at 8 pm ET on ABC. For the ninth consecutive year, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will host. There’s a lot of performances lined up for the show. Like always there will be great moments and other moments we wish we didn’t hear. This year I will not be doing a live blog, as I found most people weren’t interested in it. But I’ll be live tweeting on Twitter as always. You can follow me at @realcountryview or twitter.com/realcountryview. For those not on Twitter you can simply go to the Twitter link I just listed and hit refresh throughout the night to get my instant thoughts and snark.

If I get half of my predictions I’ll feel lucky because you never know what backstage politics are taking place for this award’s show. So let’s take a look at my predictions and who I would pick…

  1. I actually think Carrie Underwood will win Entertainer of The Year while Female Vocalist will go to Maren Morris (Miranda Lambert did nothing so I am shocked that you’ll think she wins, yeah politics but it’d expose the award show terribly if Miranda Lambert won), I just believe it is way too soon to have Chris Stapleton win Entertainer, yes he sells like crazy but his lack of radio prescence puts him at such a disadvantage compared to Carrie Underwood or Luke Bryan. I do believe Chris Stapleton will snag Male Vocalist.

For Vocal Group, I can see the fact that Little Big Town is having a lot of buzz with “Better Man” (music video came out and news on their album) snagging them the win as the category, if not them then Old Dominion as Old Dominion had more radio prescence than the other acts. Zac Brown Band, just no, they called the award shows out so I don’t see them winning.

For Album of The Year, I honestly think Maren Morris or Carrie Underwood will win. I feel like the CMA’s are going to be a big night for the ladies. That’s why Maren is my prediction for Single and Song.

Vocal duo will be FGL (shocking no one).

I honestly think Maren Morris and Carrie Underwood will be in for huge nights.

    • Hmm…you may be on to something with Maren Morris. The industry seems to be falling over themselves to give Morris credit that she doesn’t deserve, so a female vocalist win may not be out of the question.

And, yeah, I don’t see group going to anyone but Little Big Town. The CMAs (and ACMs) have long proven that they don’t care about Zac Brown Band, and I can’t imagine they’d give it to such hacks as Old Dominion (of course, now they will, just because I said that…)

  2. If there was any justice, Eric Church and Mr. Misunderstood should have a huge night……but it is the CMA’s so he probably won’t win any awards. He had what was clearly the best album of the year for any of the artists that the CMA considers anyhow.

  3. Comical that Die A Happy Man is even in the same category as a song such as Record Year that took so much talent and creativity.

  4. Too much love for a newcomer with one hit & an album selling ok, but not outstanding. Maren Morris for “New Artist Of The Year”. That’s it.

Album, Male Vocalist, Single or Song for Eric Church. Or Tim McGraw (Lori McKenna) for Single or Song.

    Female Vocalist:…well…Carrie Underwood (or you-know-who-wins-every-award).

Entertainer should be Carrie Underwood. It’s about time.

    Vocal Group:…LBT.

    Vocal Duo: Joey + Rory.

Musical Event (or whatever the name is): Kermit & Miss Piggy.

Musician: one of the five guys will will…for sure.

Video: i don’t watch many music videos.

  5. I think Carrie Underwood will get female vocalist — surely there’s got to be a lot of pressure to change it up, especially given that Miranda has been off the radar, musically, for the past year as she prepared her new album. It would be completely absurd to give it to her.

I agree that Maren Morris will probably get new artist, and Rhett will likely get single of the year. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Eric Church snags best album. We know from last year that the CMA is willing to recognize obvious talent and Church’s album is obviously the best of the lot. Eric Church needs to receive his due recognition from the CMA, and I think they might do it this year.
